Geological-hydrogeological clarifications in landslide area “Ober Weidist”, Altstätten (SG)
At the beginning of June 2013, a bigger landslide occurred in the area of Ober Weidist in Altstätten in connection with heavy rainfalls during that period. More than 1 million cubic meters of soil slid off and destroyed grazing land, barns and forest. In the past weeks, we have observed this area regularly and have made a proposition to the town of Altstätten of how to proceed with a risk analysis and an evaluation of the damage potential. We have now been assigned to carry out the proposed investigations. This in collaboration with the office of Andres Geotechnik AG, St. Gallen.
In the coming weeks, we will carry out sounding drillings, inclinometer measurements, geodetic recordings, drone flights, mappings and so forth in order to obtain a concrete picture concerning the cause of damage, slide mechanism, risk potential and future measures.
